I have been fascinated by the Celtic cultures that swept across Europe since my early twenties. The period between 43-125 AD is of special interest as I am also a member of the Living History Group LEGIO IX HISPANA. My persona is named Senecio, of the Caledonii. Its root “seno” means Old. It was found on a writing tablet at Vindolanda, Northumberland, near Hadrian’s Wall, between 97-115 AD in an account with a list containing several non-Latin names. It is not found elsewhere in the Roman Empire. The oldest surviving handwritten documents in Britain come from the Roman fort of Vindolanda. This was one of the main military posts on the northern frontier of Britain before the building of Hadrian's Wall.
